Anbu Travel Stories - Part 3 Wayanad Heritage Museum,

After visiting edakkal caves we all went to Wayanad Heritage Museum. Wayanad Heritage Museum is situated at Ambalavayal.... Also, it has another name known as Ambalavayal Heritage Museum. It's 12km from Sulthan Bathery also 5km from Edakkal Caves.



It is one of the best Archaeological Museum. Also, this one of the best-maintained museum in Wayanad, Kerala.

The museum looks like a traditional house, One of the Richest collection of the historic artefact. The museum includes much stones weapons, stone carvings, 14th to 17th-century sculptures and some other interesting Artefacts like a rare collection of ancient instruments and tribal artefacts like Jewellery, hunting and fishing weapons, farming instruments.


The Museum Exhibits a collection of four blocks

1. Veerasmruthi

2. Devasmruthi

3. Jeevanasmruthi

4. Gothrasmruthi


1. Veerasmruthi

It belongs to "Memories of Heroes". Includes different types of pictorial rocks known as " Veerakkallu" or "Hero Stones". The people who laid down their lives while fighting in battle.




2. Devasmruthi

It belongs to "Memories of God and Worship of God". They were worshipped in Ancient times, the idols include those of Lord Rama, Bhairava or Shiva. Idols made of hard and soft rocks, which were believed to be worshipped by the ancient people.



3. Jeevansmruthi

It belongs to "Memories Of Life". It exhibits relate to everyday life and consist of household utensils and household tools. Also, includes tools and ornaments, fishing weapons etc......



4. Gothrasmruthi

It belongs to "Tribal Memories". Includes tribal life, tribal artefacts like headgear, Jewellery, hunting, and fishing weapon, cowbells, farming implement and musical instruments are on display here.
