Indian medicinal benefits turkey berry gravy, Sundakkai Puli Kuzhambu,

Sundakkai puli kuzhambu is a delicious south Indian style kuzhambu prepared with fresh sundakkai. Crushed the turkey berry to reduce the bitterness.




Ingredients

1 cup Sundakkai/Turkey berries

Onion

Tomato

Garlic

Tamarind

Rock Salt

Homemade chili powder | check this link for homemade chili powder

turmeric

Coconut


For the seasoning

Oil/Ghee

1 teaspoon mustard seeds

Cumin seeds/jeera

Asafoetida

Curry leaves



For Grinding

Grind Coconut cup



Method of preparation




  1. To begin cooking, wash the turkey berry/sundakkai well, and crush them using mortar and pestle, Crushing is more important to remove bitterness. Crushed turkey berry/sundakkai wash well with water to remove excess seeds also it removes the bitterness.

  2. Take coconut into a blender to add little water and grind it into a smooth paste. keep aside ground coconut paste.

  3. In a pan add sesame oil, when oil gets heated, add mustard seeds, when mustard seeds get tempered add small onions, garlic, curry leaves, asafoetida, tomato.

  4. Add crushed turkey berry/Sundakkai and saute well. cook well until sundakai/turkey berry turns into the light green, add turmeric and salt.

  5. Once turkey berry/sundakkai turns light green add tamarind extract and mix well.

  6. Add homemade chili powder.

  7. Add ground coconut paste and cook well.

  8. Reduce the flame to low and cook for a few minutes until kuzhambu gets thickens

  9. the sundakkai kuzhambu/turkey berry gravy serves with hot rice or idly, dosa.
